Theclash between the Communist New Fourth Army and the Central Government 70th Division in CHEKIANG, which was reported by YENAN radio on October, oth, is not the first to be reported from this province. CHEKIANG is considered by the KUCMINTANG to be their preserve, but some months previous to the Japanese surrender considerable Communist penetration took place, probably in anticipation of Allied landings on the CHINA coast. In July it was reliably reported that "generally speaking, Central Government troops and puppets versus Japanese and Commulists is a much truer line-up than Central Government and Communists versus Japanese and puppets". The incident is in any case bid to have unfortunate repercussions in CHUNGKING.
